You know things are bad when career government employees start bragging about frugality. In a report filed by the Associated Press, Cherish Francik, a long-term employee of the Social Security Administration talks about her new found frugality:

“Most of my life, I’ve been a brand-name shopper. It was a quick change for me, a real quick change,” said Francik, whose haul from the Williams auction included trail mix, honey-barbecue chicken nuggets and a spiral-cut ham. “I guess

Country Auctions-Get a Good Deal Every Time

Auction season is here. I attended my first auction of the year last Saturday with the husband. Truthfully, we went as much for the opportunity to enjoy the first warm day of spring (over 30° F) as we did to scope out good deals. It was an equipment auction at the auctioneer’s lot. Large equipment auctions can drag on for hours, and this one did. We had lunch at the concession stand and wandered around looking at machinery, farm equipment, and people. We didn’t bid on anything, but we did use the opportunity to observe what price things were fetching. In fact, observation is one of the key factors in getting a good deal at an auction; the other is strategy. (more…)
